Gerards Wine tastingGerards Wines and Liquors in Point Pleasant hosted the 2nd Annual Wine Tasting in January 2012 and presented the Foundation with a check for $15,000. We immediately sent a check to a local family who has two children who are suffering from Cystic Fibrosis and a five year old who has four brain tumors caused by an unknown disease. Annual FundraiserThe annual fundraiser was held at Jenkinson's Pavilion on April 10, 2011. The fundraiser was a huge success. Over 425 jubilant people joined in the festivities for what turned out to be the most successful fundraiser to date. Celebrants were entertained by the ever popular local band, 2nd Wind, and by the Pipes and Drums of the Jersey Shore. The Storino Family donated a delicious buffet and barbeque. Our ever generous local merchants donated spectacular gifts for the gift auction. We are forever grateful to our wonderful volunteers who freely donated months of their time to make the fundraiser a rousing success. We are happy to announce that we raised over $25,000, all of which will be donated to families of seriously ill children. Dinner for Cancer PatientsOn Holy Thursday, six members of the Carmie Brady Foundation donned their Brady Bunch Shirts and piled into a mini van to travel to New York City to cook and serve a gourmet meal for the almost sixty patients who are residing in Hope Lodge. The patients in Hope Lodge are seriously ill cancer patients who are undergoing treatment for cancer in various hospitals in New York. The contingent, which was led by Bob Brady, who is a gourmet chef and former owner of several famous restaurants in New Jersey, planned and prepared the meal for over two days. The menu included home made clam chowder, shrimp, salad, country chicken, Bob's famous crab cakes, soft drinks, fresh cut fruit, and dessert. Karen Radwin, the Director of Hope Lodge, emailed the chefs the following morning and stated, "Over and over I have been stopped in the hallways this morning by patients who could not say enough about the wonderful food and about the love and concern that the members of the Brady Bunch showed to us". Reminiscing about the evening Chuck Brady commented, "I think that this was one of the most wonderful things that I have ever done for anyone in my life. These people were from all over the world. They were away from their loved ones and would not be home for Easter. One mother, who was from St Lucia, had not seen her baby in six months. Most of the patients were critically ill and yet they were the happiest, most loving people you would ever want to meet in your life. They did as much to brighten our lives as we did for them. I could not be more proud of the Brady Bunch and the fact that we sponsor the Carmie Brady Room at Hope Lodge." As we exited the building someone proudly uttered, "Look, there is the list of the donors who built Hope Lodge. Right in the center of the names of famous millionaires and major corporations was the name, "the Brady Bunch." Human Horse RaceThe Irish American Society of N.J. hosted a fundraiser for the Carmie Brady Foundation at Monmouth Park Race Track. Thirteen men and women raised over a thousand dollars each for the privilege of donning Horse costumes and racing on the track to raise money for sick children. The race was listed in the program as an official Race of the Day. The track manager commented that the only time he saw so much interest in a race at Monmouth was at the Haskel Stakes, which is the biggest horse race of the year! We are happy to report that the event raised over $15,000, all of which is being donated by the Foundation to families with seriously ill children. Our thanks go out to John Carr and his human horses, two of whom are still limping. Walk for the CureFive years ago, The Carmie Brady Foundation committed to raising $20,000 a year for five years to support the Carmie Brady Room at Hope Lodge in New York City. We are extremely happy to report that, with the help of all of our wonderful supporters, we have reached our milestone. We will soon present our fifth $20,000 check to Hope Lodge. We have reached our goal of $100,000 in five years. We also want you to know that, over the past five years, we have fallen in love with the patients, staff and volunteers of Hope Lodge. It is our plan to continue to Walk for the Cure for the benefit of Hope Lodge. |
